Problem
Our partnership with Greater St. Louis began in 2023, as the organization’s STL 2030 Jobs Plan (Driving a Decade of Inclusive Growth) reached its quarterly milestone. Greater St. Louis stakeholders needed a compelling, data-driven toolkit to track the region’s advancement toward inclusive economic growth goals. We needed to answer: “How do we know we’re making progress?”
Action
Through a series of virtual discovery sessions with client stakeholders, data consultants and analysts, and geographic information specialists, Tremendousness defined the architecture, visual narrative, and technical framework necessary to bring together multitides of data points, investments, and initiatives.
Our largest challenge was shaping complicated data into a sensible, engaging format, allowing investors and regional leaders to connect the dots between strategic growth and the work underway to get there. Tremendousness worked almost daily with the Greater St. Louis team through rounds of user experience design, visual and interactive design, and internal and external testing.
Result
The site’s bold design represents forward progress and the confluence of data (with a nod to the river-based St. Louis region). Three distinct colors unite the website information while grid patterns show that there’s still work to be done. The overall web experience contains over 60 charts, almost 400 capital development projects, and details about more than 125 strategic initiatives.
The site includes a customized, easy-to-use content management system, along with automatic integration updates for Tableau and ArcGIS data. The site is mobile-optimized and highly-performative — logging 100% in Best Practices and 98% in overall site performance when tested at launch. STL Progress to 2030 , located at stl2030progress.com, was revealed on-time and on-budget at the 2023 Inclusive Economic Growth Summit — where the public explored the site on large touch screens — and was recognized by the The Brookings Institution.
