Off to desgn.it!

I’m on a plane, heading to a Desgn.it Tahoe 2015. Never heard of it? I found out about it serendipitously and was immediately compelled to apply. I have little idea what to expect, but it sounds like a fantastic way to spend a few days—and for a good cause. A bunch of designers in a giant, beautiful lakeside house. I hope there’s good coffee, wine, decent pillows (in that order). I suspect there will be plenty of talent and passion—and many rushes of endorphins.

As far as I can tell, the line-up of designers and non-profits are largely Bay Area-based—with a couple exceptions (myself included, of course). I’m interested in seeing how it all comes together, since the list of projected deliverables and outcomes feels pretty substantial for a 48 hour session (that should include some eating and sleeping time).

Add to this compressed timeframe a crew of designers from various disciplines and with varied experience. I don’t know how the curators of the event decided to mix the teams of talent, but it’s my goal to make a good product in a short period of time with people I’ve never met.

So I’m bringing a good deal of humility, empathy, and my usual work ethic. We’ll see how it all pans out!
